Alongside a fascination for bridging research and design, data-driven methodologies and holistic design concepts from high-tech to vernacular-inspired approaches, the most valued spatial assessment tool remains physical modelling. It complements digital modelling and methods such as eye-tracking by providing an abstract yet honest representation of space, light, material and scale.
At the same time it consciously slows the design process down, letting space, material and construction be understood through making. The dialogue between physical and digital representations of space stays valuable precisely because neither replaces the other.
