A surf school with a bar, nestled among the trees on the shore of the Walchensee. Two light buildings form an L: one holds the school and reaches partly out over the water, the other faces the street and contains the bathrooms, the reception and the bar with its stores.
A modular grid of 2.4 metres defines the simple timber structure. The walls are made of modules of polycarbonate, glass, timber or slats, and combinations of them, so that light and view can be controlled module by module.
Limiting the range of timber spans simplified the construction radically. The building was planned around the trees that were already there. It can be assembled quickly with few tools and little labour, is easy to take apart, and leaves no trace once its life is over.
