A terraced house from 1913 in Munich is converted and extended with a timber building. On the ground floor the salon, library, kitchen and dining room open onto one another; the fitted joinery follows one continuous frame grid in sage green.
The upper floor holds the bedrooms and a guest room with two bathrooms. Under the exposed roof structure, the attic becomes a master suite with bathroom, dressing room and a roof terrace on top of the extension.
The entrance lies half a level down, at −0.47; three steps lead up into the hall with the staircase. The salon sits in the bay, with a bench that follows the bay window. Kitchen and dining room lie at the back of the house: the kitchen with an island and a wall of tall cupboards, the pantry and the guest WC off the corridor. From the second salon, the terrace of timber decking leads three steps down into the garden.
The kitchen cupboards have solid wood fronts 22 mm thick. Each front carries its own grip strip, 2.5 cm wide, standing 3 cm proud of the front and flush with the frame. Closed, the strips and the frame form one continuous grid; to open a door or a drawer, the fingers reach into a hollow under or beside the strip.
The upper floor gathers a lounge, two bedrooms and a guest room of 20 m² around the landing, with a large bathroom and a guest bathroom. The wardrobes follow the joinery of the kitchen, each room in its own colour: bedroom 1 light red, the guest room light green, bedroom 2 light blue. The bathroom tiles take up the tone of the room.
The attic is a single suite under the exposed roof structure. The bathroom has a freestanding bathtub and a double basin; the level shower opens onto it behind a tiled parapet with glass above, and the WC is separate. Two walk-in wardrobes lie between bedroom and bath, and the sliding doors run into wall pockets. The roof terrace of 34 m² lies on top of the extension.
The roof structure is rebuilt after the section of 1913: a double standing purlin roof. The rafters are notched over the purlins, collar and upper beams are lapped in, the purlins rest on posts of 14/14 cm and the braces are pinned with timber nails. On the south side no post stands in the room: there the purlin rests on the cheeks of the dormer.
The basement holds the laundry, a run in the kitchen grid painted dark blue, with washing machine, dryer and sink; the boiler room with the heat pump, a 200 litre hot water tank and a 100 litre buffer tank; and a storage cellar.
