Daegu, an industrial city of 2.5 million inhabitants, is the fourth largest in South Korea. Its cityscape is characterised by both outdated urban planning and ambitious high-rise development, and by a certain randomness of demolition and new construction.

The project site is an abandoned village of partially destroyed hanoks — traditional Korean dwellings — sitting in the middle of that context and standing for the city's transitional state. An act of demolition took place in 2019; since then the site has waited four years for a construction company to begin several high-rise buildings. It is one of many such sites in Daegu, and it forms the basis for Inbetween.
